The level of cultural and religious detail in this novel of the far future in space is remarkable.  The author is a good "world-builder" and a convincing architect of future and alien societies.  This is not a "space opera" but a romance set in space against a backdrop of interstellar diplomacy, politics, and the clash of cultures. Two people, a man and woman from different planets, manage to forge a relationship across the light years. I liked the clash between Earth and Chikondran cultures and the forces the collision brings to bear on the romantic couple.
